When you register your dog with the Siberian Husky Club, it will automatically have its information sent to the SKC for registration - no need to fill out two applications. However, registration with the SHC is a thorough process to ensure the continued quality of the breed and certain conditions must be met for registration.
Registration Types The Siberian Husky Club offers two forms of registration: partial and full.
Partial or limited registration simply means that the dog is unable to produce registry-eligible offspring. This is ideal for dogs bred for conformation who exceed the height limit, or for dogs lacking the athleticism or skill to perform well in working disciplines. These dogs are essentially pets and are typically spayed or neutered. These dogs' registration will not be forwarded to the SKC.
Full registration is recommended for dogs who may at some point be used for breeding stock. These are dogs with careers in the show ring or on the trail or in whatever SKC-affiliated discipline their owners elect to participate in. These dogs are free of disqualifying faults or hereditary defects. All offspring will be eligible for registration, and these dogs will receive SKC numbers.
Racing lines vs. Showing lines What is the difference and why should you care?
Racing line dogs tend to be taller, leaner, with longer and more nimble legs and very often a slightly more fine coat. They are more athletic than their showring strutting counterparts, excelling in harness in front of any manner of cart or sled and certainly holding their own in weight pull competitions. These dogs are bred for their athletic ability and work ethic far more than their appearance though they come in a wide variety of colors not found in the showring.
Show line dogs are the result of breeding to the standard. They are a bit shorter, more stocky, with fuller coats coming in a lesser range of colors with significantly more symmetrical markings. Because emphasis is put on their ability to meet the breed standard, these dogs typically do not excel in sled dog races, though they are still quite adept and enthusiastic in harness.
Realism and You To promote the continued quality of the breed, dogs with any of the following will not be permitted full registration:
Excessive bone or weight
Dogs with the following traits will not be eligible for registration: * - registration possible with edits.
Unrealistic coats, including those not found in the breed and coats which do not resemble colors that are found in the breed*
Duplicate premade coats*
Severe conformation flaws*
2nd+ generation with unregistered parents
* - registration possible with edits. A dog with mild or moderate conformation flaws will not be turned away from registration as long as it can be recognized as a Siberian Husky and is, in fact, purebred. We use breed shows to judge the conformation of the dogs in our club and the reward for breeding dogs that fit the standard are high scores and prizes in these shows. You will therefore not be punished if your dogs do not meet the standard, but you will miss out on the rewards.
